Privacy Policy

The Refuge Homeless Shelter of Lapeer County ("The Refuge Lapeer", "we", "us") runs this website, refugelapeer.org. We respect your privacy and only collect what we need to answer you, coordinate help, and process gifts. We never sell or rent your personal information.

Information you give us

• Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (if you add it), the topic you choose, and your message.
• Volunteer sign-up: your name, email address, phone number (if you add it), the ways you would like to help, and any message.
• Newsletter: your email address. We send a confirmation email first, and you are only added once you confirm.
• Donations: your name, email address, the amount and designation of your gift, and any tribute or message you include. Card and bank details are entered on Stripe's secure payment page and go directly to Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Information collected automatically

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use the site, such as which pages are visited, the type of device and browser, and the general area a visit comes from. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. It does not tell us who you are.

If you change the text size or other settings in the accessibility toolbar, those choices are saved in your own browser so they stay in place on your next visit. They are not sent to us.

How we use your information

• To reply to your messages and questions.
• To contact you about volunteer opportunities you signed up for.
• To send the newsletter you asked for.
• To process your donation and send your receipt for tax purposes.
• To keep the website working well and improve it.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the website, and only so they can do that work: Stripe (payments), Resend (sending email), Amazon Web Services (website hosting), Google (analytics), and an error-monitoring service that helps us fix problems on the site. We may also share information if the law requires it.

Your choices

• Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time.
• You can ask us to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing contact@refugelapeer.org. We keep donation records as long as the law requires for nonprofit tax and accounting purposes.
• You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them.

Keeping your information safe

The site uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, and access to the information you send us is limited to the staff who need it. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share.

Children

This website is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Other websites

Our site links to other websites, such as our Amazon wish list, Facebook, and Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top of the page.
